PUTTU
It is the typical Kerala steam cake usually made from either rice flour or wheat flour. In olden times it was cooked in bamboo pole cut into maybe 20cm long and wound with coir yarns on its body to hold it firmly. In modern times ready-made aluminium poles are used instead of bamboo poles. Puttu when made is normally done with grated coconut in it to separate it into small pieces. It is one of the most favourite breakfast dishes in Kerala.
