SRI MAHAGANAPATHY TEMPLE
Kottarakara Sri Mahaganapathy Temple is an ancient temple of worship dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is a very popular temple where even non-Hindus are permitted to pray. Though the main deity is Lord Shiva at the temple, priority is given to Lord Ganesha. The main offering of the temple is “Unniyappam,” a sweet, small and round, brown flour-cake boiled in oil. The Lord Ganapthy in the temple is represented as a yellow-skinned, short elephant-headed idol with big round belly and having trunk, four arms, large ears and bright shining eyes. The temple is busy all round the year with devotees coming from the length and breadth of the state and even from outside.
