ASHTAMUDI LAKE

The Ashtamudi Lake in Kollam is the second largest and deepest wetland ecosystem in Kerala. Known as the gateway to the backwaters of Kerala, the Ashtamudi Lake, as the name denotes, has 8 corners. Chinese fishing nets and small canoes are a common sight here. The lake is surrounded by lush green flora. About 57 species of fauna are supported by the lake. 40 species of wetland birds are recorded to be depending on the lake out of which 45% are long distance migrants. The lake and the surrounding area with cool breeze and natural setting brings about a romantic beauty to the minds of its visitors.
